What is Zstandard?
Zstandard (zstd) is a fast, modern compression algorithm developed by Facebook. It compresses faster than GZIP while producing smaller output, and decompresses at near-disk speed. Zstandard is used by Linux kernel modules, databases, and container images.
It supports dictionary compression for small payloads, has a wide range of levels (1 to 22, plus negative levels for extreme speed), and is designed to scale from embedded systems to data centres.
FAQ
Zstd vs GZIP vs Brotli
Zstd is generally faster than Brotli at comparable ratios and much faster than GZIP. Choose Zstd when speed matters; Brotli when ratio matters most.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using a WASM build of the reference Zstd library.
