RIPEMD-256 File
Compute the RIPEMD-256 hash of any file. Buffered in memory, capped at 500 MB.

What is RIPEMD-256 file hashing?
RIPEMD-256 is a 256-bit cryptographic hash from the RIPE project (1996). It is rarely deployed. SHA-256 or BLAKE3 are better choices for new work.
How to use
Drag a file into the box, click to select one, or paste from the clipboard. The tool streams the file in chunks and computes the hash as it reads. You can also enter a file URL; the server must allow cross-origin requests.
FAQ
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file never leaves your device.
How large a file can I hash?
RIPEMD-256 cannot be streamed in the browser, so the file is read entirely into memory first. The practical cap is around 500 MB.
Why does my hash differ from another tool?
Confirm the file is byte-identical and the other tool is reading it in binary mode. Text modes can alter line endings.
Command line equivalent
# Python
python3 -c "import hashlib; print(hashlib.new('ripemd256', open('myfile.bin','rb').read()).hexdigest())" The server must allow cross-origin requests (CORS). If it doesn't, download the file and use the File tab.
