Decompress zlib data back to plain text.
Decompress zlib (RFC 1950) data back to text. Free, offline, runs entirely in your browser. Read more Show less
What is zlib decompression?
Decompression reverses the zlib format (RFC 1950) back to the original bytes. zlib is DEFLATE with a two-byte header and an Adler-32 trailer, used by PNG images, Python's zlib module, and many programming language APIs.
How to use
Paste zlib data as Base64 or Hex. Choose the input encoding. The result is the original text.
If your data is raw DEFLATE or GZIP, use the corresponding tool instead. zlib data typically starts with a byte whose value is 0x78, 0x58, or 0x48.
FAQ
zlib vs GZIP vs DEFLATE
zlib has a lighter header than GZIP and no magic number. GZIP can be identified by the first two bytes 1f 8b. Raw DEFLATE has no header at all.
Why does decompression fail?
The input is not valid zlib. Check the encoding (Base64 vs Hex) and confirm the source actually produced zlib, not raw DEFLATE or GZIP.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser using fflate.
