What is a URL?
A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) identifies a resource on the web and how to reach it. It has several components: scheme (https), authority (user, password, host, port), path, query string, and fragment. Understanding each part is useful for debugging redirects, CORS, authentication, and web scrapers.
FAQ
What is the difference between host and hostname?
Host includes the port (example.com:8080); hostname is just the domain (example.com).
What is the origin?
Origin = scheme + host + port. Two URLs share an origin if all three match, which is what browsers use for same-origin policy.
Why is my query parameter list empty?
URLSearchParams works on both single-value and multi-value keys. Duplicate keys appear multiple times in the list.
Is my URL sent anywhere?
No. Parsing uses the browser built-in URL parser.
