What is YAML?

YAML (YAML Ain't Markup Language) is a human-readable data format used for configuration files. It supports comments, multi-line strings, anchors, and references, which makes it more expressive than JSON for hand-edited files. Kubernetes manifests, Docker Compose files, CI configurations, and Ansible playbooks are usually written in YAML.

YAML is a strict superset of JSON: every valid JSON document is also valid YAML.

How to use

Choose the direction: YAML to JSON or JSON to YAML. Paste your input. The conversion is exact: YAML comments are lost (they have no JSON equivalent), but data is preserved.

FAQ

Does this support multi-document YAML?

Yes for reading. Multiple documents separated by --- become a JSON array.

Are YAML comments preserved?

No. JSON has no comment syntax, so comments are dropped when converting YAML to JSON.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. Conversion uses the yaml library running entirely in your browser.
