What is SHA-384?
SHA-384 is a truncation of SHA-512, defined in FIPS 180-4. It produces a 48-byte hash, shown as 96 hexadecimal characters. It is used in TLS certificates, code signing, and anywhere a longer hash than SHA-256 is desired without the full 64-byte output of SHA-512.
How to use
Drag, click, or paste a file. The tool streams the file in chunks, so memory use stays low and the UI stays responsive.
FAQ
Are files uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser.
SHA-384 vs SHA-512
SHA-384 provides 192-bit security versus 256-bit for SHA-512. Both are secure; use SHA-384 when you want a shorter hash than SHA-512 but stronger than SHA-256.
Which is faster?
On 64-bit CPUs, SHA-512 is faster than SHA-384 because it processes a full 1024-bit block. The difference is small.
Command line equivalent
# Linux / macOS
sha384sum myfile.bin
# macOS (BSD)
shasum -a 384 myfile.bin
# Windows PowerShell
Get-FileHash myfile.bin -Algorithm SHA384 The server must allow cross-origin requests (CORS). If it doesn't, download the file and use the File tab.
