What is SHA-384?

SHA-384 is a truncation of SHA-512, standardized by NIST in FIPS 180-4. It produces a 384-bit (48-byte) digest, shown as 96 hexadecimal characters. SHA-384 is used in TLS certificates, code signing, and where a longer hash is required than SHA-256 but SHA-512 output is excessive.

How to calculate SHA-384

Type or paste text into the input box. The tool uses the browser's native Web Crypto API, so it is fast and the bytes never leave your device.

For example, the UTF-8 text abc produces:

FAQ

SHA-384 vs SHA-512

SHA-384 provides 192-bit security versus 256-bit for SHA-512. Both are secure; use SHA-384 when 256 is not enough and 512 is overkill.

Is SHA-384 safe?

Yes. No practical attacks are known.
