What is text comparison?
Text comparison highlights the differences between two blocks of text. It is used for reviewing changes, spotting subtle variations in configuration files, and confirming that two supposedly identical files really match.
This tool uses a line-by-line diff based on the longest common subsequence (LCS) algorithm, the same approach used by diff and Git.
How to use
Paste the "original" text in the left box and the "changed" text in the right. Lines only in the original are shown in red. Lines only in the changed version are shown in green. Matching lines are shown in grey.
FAQ
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Diff computation runs in your browser.
Can I compare binary files?
No. This tool works on text. For binary comparison, hash both files and compare the hashes.
How is it different from a character diff?
This is a line-level diff. Character-level diff would show far more differences and is noisier for most use cases.
