What is hex encoding?
Hex (Base16) encoding represents each byte as two hexadecimal characters: 00 through ff. It is used in hash outputs, MAC addresses, and anywhere binary data needs a human-readable, easily compared form.
How to encode
Type or paste text. The tool encodes the UTF-8 bytes to hex. Choose lower or upper case, and optionally add a separator between bytes.
For example, abc encodes to 616263.
FAQ
Why does UTF-8 make my hex longer than expected?
Each non-ASCII character uses 2-4 bytes in UTF-8, so it becomes 4-8 hex characters. Use ASCII input for one byte per character.
Hex vs Base64
Hex doubles the size (2 chars per byte). Base64 adds only 33%. Use hex when you want fixed-width, case-insensitive, or easy-to-eyeball output.
