What is a hex dump?
A hex dump displays binary data as rows of hexadecimal bytes with their offsets and an ASCII representation. It is used to inspect binary files, debug protocols, and understand the byte-level structure of data.
Classic format: 16 bytes per row, offset in hex on the left, hex bytes in the middle, ASCII on the right. Non-printable bytes are shown as dots.
How to use
Type text, or paste Hex or Base64 data. The dump updates as you type.
FAQ
What encoding does the ASCII column use?
Bytes 0x20-0x7E are shown as their character. Everything else becomes a dot.
Can I dump a file?
Paste its contents as Hex or Base64 first. A file-upload version is on the roadmap.
Why 16 bytes per row?
It divides evenly into 8, 16, 32, and 64-bit words, and matches the traditional format used by hexdump and xxd.
