What is XML minification?
Minification removes whitespace between tags. In most XML documents, whitespace between elements is not significant. Removing it reduces the payload size without affecting the parsed structure.
Text content inside elements is preserved exactly. Only inter-tag whitespace is stripped.
FAQ
Does minification change the meaning?
In most cases no. Some documents rely on whitespace between elements (mixed content), but those are rare. If your schema requires whitespace preservation, do not minify.
How much smaller does it get?
Typically 10-30% for deeply indented XML. Fewer savings than JSON because XML has more structural overhead.
