What is Adler-32?
Adler-32 is a 32-bit checksum designed by Mark Adler, used in zlib and gzip. It is faster than CRC-32 on short inputs but weaker against certain error patterns. It appears in the trailer of zlib streams and is easy to compute in software.
How to use
Drag, click, or paste a file. The tool streams the file in chunks and computes Adler-32.
FAQ
Is Adler-32 secure?
No. It is a checksum, not a cryptographic hash.
Adler-32 vs CRC-32
Adler-32 is simpler and faster on short inputs. CRC-32 catches a wider class of errors. zlib uses Adler-32 for its own streams and CRC-32 for gzip wrappers.
