What is Brotli?

Brotli (RFC 7932) is a compression algorithm developed by Google, first released in 2015. It achieves roughly 20% better compression than GZIP on web content and is supported by every modern browser. It is used by HTTP servers for Content-Encoding: br.

Brotli uses a static dictionary of common web strings, which is why it beats GZIP on short payloads. Compression level ranges from 0 (fast) to 11 (max ratio).

How to use

Type or paste text. Choose a compression level. The tool compresses with Brotli and shows the result in Base64 (default) or Hex. Copy the output or switch the encoding.

To decompress, paste the result into Brotli Decompress.

FAQ

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using brotli-wasm.

What level should I use?

Level 6 is a good default. Level 11 is slow but produces the smallest output. Level 1 is fast, useful for streaming.

Brotli vs GZIP

Brotli typically compresses 15-25% smaller. GZIP is faster and has wider support in older tooling.

Is Brotli secure?

Brotli is compression, not encryption. Anyone can decompress it.
