What is a file hash?
A file hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of a file's contents. The same file always produces the same hash; a single changed byte produces a completely different one. Hashes are used to verify downloads, detect corruption, and confirm two copies are identical.
How to use
Drag a file into the box, click to select one, or paste from the clipboard. The tool reads the file in small chunks and hashes as it goes, so memory use stays flat even for multi-gigabyte files.
You can also enter a file URL. The server must allow cross-origin requests; if it does not, download the file and use the File tab.
FAQ
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file never leaves your device.
How large a file can I hash?
Any size your browser can open. Files are streamed in chunks, so a 4 GB ISO works without using 4 GB of RAM.
Why does my hash differ from another tool?
Confirm the file is byte-identical and the other tool is reading it in binary mode. Text modes can alter line endings.
The server must allow cross-origin requests (CORS). If it doesn't, download the file and use the File tab.
