What is a timestamp?

A timestamp is a moment in time represented as a number or string. Unix time counts seconds since 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC, ignoring leap seconds. ISO 8601 is the human-readable format used by most APIs. RFC 2822 is the format used by email headers. Windows FILETIME counts 100-nanosecond intervals since 1601.

How to use

Paste a value into the input. The tool detects the format automatically: 10-digit numbers are treated as Unix seconds, 13-digit as milliseconds, ISO and RFC strings are parsed directly. Every representation of that moment is shown below.

FAQ

Why is my timestamp off by hours?

Timezones. Unix time is UTC; when you display it in your local timezone the offset is applied. The tool shows both UTC and your local time.

What is the Year 2038 problem?

Systems that store Unix time in a signed 32-bit integer overflow on 2038-01-19. Modern systems use 64-bit integers and are unaffected.

Can I get the current time?

Yes: leave the input empty and click Now.
