What is Base64 decoding?
Base64 decoding takes a Base64-encoded string and returns the original bytes. If the input is a UTF-8 text string, the output is the original text. If the input is binary data (an image, a signature, a file), the output is that binary data.
How to decode
Paste Base64 into the input box. The tool ignores whitespace and line breaks automatically. Choose URL-safe when decoding tokens that use - and _ instead of + and /.
For example, aGVsbG8= decodes to hello.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the output look like garbage?
The decoded bytes are not valid UTF-8 text. That is expected when decoding an image, ZIP file, or other binary data. Use a Base64-to-File tool to save the result as a download.
Why does decoding fail?
Check for invalid characters, missing padding, or the wrong variant (standard vs URL-safe). This tool handles both automatically when you select the right variant.
