What is MD4 file hashing?
MD4 is a 128-bit cryptographic hash from 1990, standardized in RFC 1320. It is broken and unsafe for new use. This tool exists for verifying legacy files whose checksums were published in the MD4 era.
How to use
Drag a file into the box, click to select one, or paste from the clipboard. The tool streams the file in chunks and computes the hash as it reads. You can also enter a file URL; the server must allow cross-origin requests.
FAQ
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file never leaves your device.
How large a file can I hash?
MD4 cannot be streamed in the browser, so the file is read entirely into memory first. The practical cap is around 500 MB.
Why does my hash differ from another tool?
Confirm the file is byte-identical and the other tool is reading it in binary mode. Text modes can alter line endings.
Command line equivalent
# OpenSSL 3.x (legacy provider)
openssl dgst -md4 -provider legacy myfile.bin The server must allow cross-origin requests (CORS). If it doesn't, download the file and use the File tab.
