What is GZIP decompression?
Decompression reverses GZIP back to the original bytes. The format is defined in RFC 1952. It is used by every HTTP client and most package managers.
How to use
Paste GZIP data as Base64 or Hex. Choose the correct input encoding. The result is the original text. If the input is not valid GZIP, an error is shown.
Use GZIP Compress to produce a value you can test with this tool.
FAQ
What if my data is raw DEFLATE, not GZIP?
Use DEFLATE Decompress instead. The two formats are not interchangeable.
Why does decompression fail?
The input is either not GZIP, corrupted, or truncated. Confirm you pasted the entire value and chose the right encoding (Base64 vs Hex).
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser.
